Botox is injected into muscles underneath the skin to improve the appearance of forehead lines, crows’ feet lines and frown lines. A Botox injection works by simply blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles, thereby relaxing them and reducing the activities of dermis to create a smooth and refreshed appearance with softened wrinkles and creases.
Are you considering a Botox treatment for the first time but have questions about what the treatment will be like? Here are some of the most common frequently asked questions we get about Botox:
HOW DOES BOTOX WORK?
Botox is a neuromodulator (form of botulinum toxin type A) that is injected into targeted treatment areas using an ultra-fine needle. It works by blocking the nerve signals needed for facial muscles to contract. It’s the repetitious contraction of facial muscles that causes expression lines and wrinkles. Once injected, the neuromodulator relaxes the muscles and decreases their movement to reduce the appearance of lines or wrinkles in the area. You will see your results gradually kicking in over 3-7 days following injection.
WHAT AREAS OF THE FACE CAN BE TREATED WITH BOTOX?
Botox can be used to address lines and wrinkles on a number of different facial areas, including the forehead, eye area (crow’s feet), and lip lines. It may be injected to soften dimpling of the chin. However, mostly Botox is used to treat wrinkles on the forehead.
Botox can also be used to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), and other issues beyond facial wrinkles and creases.
WHAT DOES A BOTOX TREATMENT FEEL LIKE?
Botox treatments are quick with minimal discomfort. The treatment requires no anesthesia or recovery time. Many people, including our own clients, get Botox during their lunch hours and are able to return to work right after their appointment.
The procedure is not considered painful. Most clients report a brief period of slight discomfort during the injection, which does not persist once the procedure is complete.
While the experience of each patient may differ, it usually takes 3-7 days to see the effects of Botox kicking in. For some, it may take up to 2 weeks to realize the effects.
The results of Botox typically last between 4-6 months from the date of injection. Over time the body metabolizes the Botox, leading to the slow return of muscle movement in the treatment area. Clients can choose to maintain their Botox results for longer periods by undergoing periodic maintenance treatments every 3-4 months.
Some clients may wonder if they are ‘too young’ or ‘too old’ to try Botox. There is no right or wrong age to start using Botox. Clients are evaluated during a consultation with a medical professional- our doctor on-board- prior to treatment. Many prefer starting to using Botox in their twenties when they first start to notice lines and wrinkles or as a preventative measure.
Yes, Botox is an FDA and Health Canada approved treatment for reversing lines and wrinkles. However, clients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain neurological diseases should not receive Botox treatments.
A week before the treatment most clients are advised to stop consuming alcohol or taking medications or supplements that thin the blood like aspirin, ibuprofen, Gingko Biloba, or Ginseng. This will help minimize bruising after the procedure.
Side effects from a Botox treatment may include bruising, swelling, redness, or tenderness around the injection site, all of which will resolve without intervention after a few days to max a week
Did You Know: You Can Get Botox To Treat Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating)?
Hyperhidrosis is abnormally excessive sweating that's not necessarily related to heat or exercise. You may sweat so much that it soaks through your clothes or drips off your hands. Besides disrupting normal daily activities, this type of heavy sweating can cause social anxiety and embarrassment.
A few days after your treatment, the results will start to become apparent. You'll notice significant dryness about 2 weeks in, which is when the treatment comes into full effect!
Botox can help reduce sweating by about 87%! The results typically last around 6-8 months, but can last even longer depending on the person.
Dermal fillers can be very helpful in early signs of aging, or facial rejuvenation procedures. Dermal fillers help to diminish facial lines and restore volume and fullness in the face. As we age, our faces naturally lose subcutaneous fat. The facial muscles are then working closer to the skin surface, so smile lines and crow’s feet become more apparent. The facial skin also stretches a bit, adding to this loss of facial volume. Other factors that affect the facial skin include sun exposure, heredity, and lifestyle.
Dermal fillers can be used to:
What Are Nose Fillers?
There are no specific nose fillers. Certain types of fillers can be used in the area of the bridge of the nose to alter its shape. Often called non-surgical rhinoplasty, they can be used to effectively straighten a hooked nose, create a slight turn-up or correct asymmetry.
Although most dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid to fill out wrinkles, several studies suggest that these fillers also induce the formation of collagen. The result of this stimulation is that skin looks fresher and more rested for longer.
All the dermal fillers used at Trend Sassy are semi-long lasting and made from hyaluronic acid, which breaks down and is absorbed into the skin after around 6 to 18 months.
The length of time a treatment lasts relies on a number of factors, including treatment area, skin elasticity, injection technique, the type of filler used and the client’s metabolism. As everyone’s body is different and results will vary from person to person, but generally dermal fillers last between 6 months and 1 year.
They can be used most effectively and naturally to restore areas of lost volume in the face that occurs as we age, which often contributes to the sag and jawline. Strategic and skillful placement of filler can lift and support the face naturally with no need for a surgical procedure. Dermal fillers can smooth fine lines on the forehead and the lower face. Moderate lines occurring in the mouth to chin area and the nose to lip corners can be softened. Cheeks and chins can be remodeled and given more definition. Scars can be minimized, while lips can be defined or enhanced, finely and naturally. Skin boosters can be used to increase hydration to the skin, particularly the face, neck, hands and décolletage.
Different fillers achieve different outcomes. At your initial consultation with our qualified medical practitioners, we’ll discuss a personalized treatment plan that’s tailored to you. It could be that you need one or more of these options:
You should be able to spot the difference immediately as a non-surgical lift. Your skin will look dewy and revitalized in a totally natural way.
Many people find their procedure at The Cosmetic Skin Clinic more comfortable than expected, and most dermal fillers contain a local anesthetic. Our medical practitioners are highly skilled and precise; you should merely feel a light sting on your skin during the injection procedure.
Both treatments involve injections, but botulinum toxin relaxes muscle movement that results in wrinkles while dermal fillers simply plump out and smooth wrinkles. Sometimes, these treatments are more effective when combined.
